In their brief blurb, Redwoods describe themselves as "a Kiwi band formed on the Jurassic lake of Tarawera, featuring members of Fire at Will and Dead Favours".
The band comprising of members Josh Dillner, Will Kearney and Hannah Kearney have recently released their debut single, which is self-titled.
The opening delay-heavy guitar riff made me think of U2, like from the Where the Streets Have No Name era. But, as the song develops, there are influences like late 80's goth, and as Hannah’s stunning and well trained voice soars about the distorted delayed guitar, I hear influences of early 2000’s symphonic metal.
Redwoods sound like they know their sound, although I’ve mentioned bands which may have influenced the band, they seem to be developing their own style.
The song develops nicely from opening to verse, pre chorus and chorus. There’s a hefty middle 8, which sounds like a long breath before launching into the final choruses.
I look forward to hearing more.
