Dilz - Single Review: Don't Trip

30 Jan 2021 // A review by Ben Ruegg

Don't Trip is the latest track from Dilz, and slick production with a catchy chorus kicks this song off.

In what I would classify as pop-rap (this isn't a negative), it captivates the audience with a catchy hook. But in contrast, the verses settle down to allow for Dilz lyrics to cut through and become the main focus. The verses focus on what is essentially courting a 'straight 10'. Proclaiming he is a real man and providing evidence of why he is a much better choice over others, Dilz writes and raps in a low key way to prove his points and make them clear. There is, of course, nothing wrong with this.

What sets Don't Trip apart from other songs that fit into this genre, is that it's done with a unique New Zealand style which will appeal with a lot of Dilz' target audience.

Compared with some of the other tracks that appear on his Spotify profile, Don't Trip feels like a different style, and I applaud that. Diversity is key, and this track will draw in some new listeners who I'm sure will be keen to hear more of what Dilz has on offer.

Rating: ( 4 / 5 )
