Mirrors are no strangers to the local music scene. Vocalist Susie Farmer and instrumentalist Regan Barker have enjoyed success with their covers band in Christchurch. In lockdown last year, they began writing and recording their own material in their home studio, resulting in an EP set for release this year.
Following on from the success of their debut single Only You, a slow, harmony rich tune, released in May 2020 and their second release, Got This Feeling, a funk infused, guitar driven track released in September last year, Mirrors released Love In My Own Time on March 5th this year. All three tracks are unique, showcasing the duo's talent for writing a variety of different songs.
Love In My Own Time kicks off with a syncopated hook played on a keyboard, followed by Farmer’s smooth vocals. She kicks things up a notch in the second half of the verse, singing up an octave and showing off her impressive range, sprinkled with a bit of vibrato to boot. The Latin inspired beat comes in and we are lead into a catchy, upbeat chorus. The song structure is simple but effective, following a standard verse chorus format, with a guitar solo in the bridge. The result in an infectious pop jam that's sure to get listeners on their feet.
The single is well produced, and it's clear Mirrors have been playing together for a long time. I look forward to hearing what the rest of their EP entails.
Mirrors are a Pop act from Christchurch. Starting out in early 2017 as a cover band, Mirrors have spent the previous 3 years playing the local scene four to five times a week. During lockdown early in 2020 the band took the time to write and record 7 songs at their home studio. Mirrors are set to release 3 singles throughout 2020 with a 7 track EP to be released early 2021.
