Lunah - Single Review: Good Man
Pop singer-songwriter Lunah has released her soulful, sassy single, Good Man.
Lunah is Nika Januszkiewicz, an Auckland based musician heavily influenced by R&B and Soul. Good Man follows on from her previous releases September and Down the Barrel, both released in 2019.
Upon listening to Good Man, I was instantly drawn in by Lunah's powerful and commanding vocals. Her delivery is effortless and this track shows off her impressive range.
The song is simple in its form, with two verses and two choruses. The instrumentation is sparse, with a simple drum beat, keyboards, and horns. Unfortunately, the instrumentation doesn't do much to enhance Lunah's stunning vocals and her clever lyrics. The chorus is catchy and uplifting, but the verses feel too long, ultimately overshadowing this. The song reaches its climax at the end of the final chorus with soaring harmonies, but just as you feel yourself starting to get into the song, it comes to an end.
I can see what Lunah is trying to accomplish with this track and it does have huge potential. It's a shame that the production fails to compliment her vocals and lyrics. I would love to hear this track with a full band behind it, including big powerful guitars, drum fills to break up the constant beat, and some more dynamic contrast. It is clear Lunah has a real talent for songwriting and an outstanding voice, but stronger production would really elevate this track. That being said, I am looking forward to seeing what else she has to offer us in the future.
