LBFRmikey - EP Review: Aim & Fire

05 Apr 2021 // A review by Gaby Ivanov-Giraldo

LBFRmikey is a Wellington-based artist who just released a new EP called Aim & Fire in March 2021. Music to this artist is the stepping stone in their life that helped create a sense of new beginning, as well as a sense of hope; being a part of something greater than the past. In this way, he resonates with many. He has songs that evoke themes surrounding heart break, youth, depression, addiction and self-expression.

The first song off the EP is Make Up. This song is about a break up, and the loneliness felt from fake love, lies and drugs. It's not a genre recognizable to many, but it's catchy and has real bounce to it. LBFRmikey's lyrics are intriguing, and his voice is smooth.

The second track is Serve It On A Plate. This song is about getting over someone, but having fun in the meantime. It's bassy and mellow with a lot of youthful and playful lyrics. LBFRmikey is an artist that doesn't mind delving into aspects of his traumas, while resonating with his audience. I highly recommend watching the music video to this one!

The third track is Right To The End. This song has a bit of a Post Malone vibe, with an R&B feel. The beat grinds with LBFRmikey's soft lyrics. He's really easy to listen to, and his songs have notably good production. It has a minimalist approach while being smooth and vibrant all in one. Versatility, genre-bending and catchiness all play a big part in why people listen to music, and LBFRmikey has got these skills on a real roll!

About LBFRmikey

Wellington based artist LBFRmikey has been making traction over the last couple years with his smash single Don’t Rain On Me premiering on the Astari YouTube Channel in mid-2019, gaining over 500,000 plays over all platforms. After making a lot of attention in his city with constant shows over the years. Mikey managed to open for international artists such as Bladee (Sweden) and Shakewell (US) in Wellington while also growing his name online working on tracks with US underground artists Slug Christ, Yung Bambi and Kamiyada.

The 25-year-old Kiwi (Originally born in London, UK) has a wide range of influences from the likes of Mac Miller, Juice Wrld, Xxxtentacion and Elton John. Through hard hitting diverse flows, to the “stuck in your head for days” catchy melodic hooks, LBFRmikey is definitely making a name for himself not just in New Zealand, (with previous articles from Sniffers for his early single Nosebleed and his first ever project the Blind EP) worldwide gaining over 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify in mid 2020 with majority of them being outside of Australasia.
