TOOMS is possible the most unique two piece I have recently had the pleasure of reviewing. With a nebulous genre that seems to fit where things aren’t supposed to fit, I like it a lot and so should you.
Hailing from Auckland, the duo have been on the scene for a few years, long enough to be signed to the international micro label, Arcade Recordings, be multi- platinum sellers and have an award to their name under their belt.
Having released their debut self-titled EP back in 2018 they are gearing up with their first full length album (out later this year) and this is a new single from that.
Dead Birds is a pretty small but ferocious assault of punchy punk riffs and sludgy overtones wrapped in a neat package. It’s by no means quiet nor soft, but it’s also not abrasive enough to be overlooked. The kind of song you either dislike or are immediately drawn to. Thankfully I like everything that is going on here. Of the two, Nich Cunningham (formally of Rope & Lost Rockets) takes front and centre on vocals here, peppered by Tooms other half, Dorian Noval fantastic backing vocals. This is effortless in every way and I highly recommend you listen for yourselves and get on board.
Award winning multi-platinum 2 piece music band from Auckland, New Zealand. Signed to international conglomerate Arcade Recordings since 2018.
