Hold I Down is a fantastic, fantastic track! From the tight drum groove that sits there and glues together the bass (which you will be bobbing your head to) and the arrangement of instruments that bring a real true Kiwi flavour and sound for our summer. There is that back and forth between the left and right channel, the keys are vamping perfectly in time. The guitar is tasty, the vocals smooth as silk...everything about this screams "Just listen to it one more time!"
There is something extremely powerful with how NZ artists take the reggae sound and just keep doing it their way. In particular, Hold I Down is one of those tracks that continues that trend. At times rock, grooving, funk and catchy....it is sure to be played a lot of summer.
Even though I could do with it being longer, it's a perfect jam for the year. I would love to see and hear how they explore this song live.
