Justin Sane - Album Review: Rising w/ Huz

29 Dec 2021 // A review by Ben Ruegg

Justin Sane has been DJing at clubs and events around the world since 1997, released countless remixes and bootlegs on numerous labels, hosted Party Hard Mix on The Edge for 5 years and had singles in the Top 20 New Zealand Singles Chart. In 2020, Justin Sane again teamed up with fellow singer/Songwriter Huz and began releasing music again, both tracks of which ended up in the #3 dance singles on iTunes and in the Top 30 overall NZ singles, one reaching the #10 spot.

On the new album Rising, they showcase how they can keep delivering on their sound. Songs like Only Love, It's Not Over and Same Song are all bangers which you could imagine going off at a festival, people jumping up and down and living in the moment. With the dance music delivering on that side, Huz has a voice that works perfectly with the sound they are going for. There is a realness and passion in every song here. While this is a dance album, there are moments like on Days With You where you can hear U2 and Coldplay coming through with the use of the guitar and strong melodic vocals. But it's not those bands when it drops into a halftime feel. This is what is so awesome about these tracks and this album. I can hear what I believe is to be a lot of different influences coming through, yet it's still original and stays with the sound you hear throughout the album.

There is something for everyone here, like the 80's influence of Bring Your Love, or Things You Do To Me which summons the more pop and hook-driven side of the group, the album does not disappoint. I look forward to hearing more from this collaboration.
