Released on the 18th of February, Storm follows on from Ezra’s debut self-titled album, which was released in February of 2021, as well as the November release of Diamond Dress. This previous collection of R&B, pop infused tunes, have cemented Ezra as an exciting artist to watch.
Real name Solomon Esera, Ezra Phoenix rose out of the ashes of Solomon’s Samoan background as a queer artist determined to make a splash in the Kiwi music scene.
A shift in a new direction for Ezra, in contrast to more upbeat previous singles (Run With The Wild Ones, Love My Brain, Boy, Diamond Dress), Storm is a slow moving, calming ballad.
Produced by Toby Lloyd of Tiny Triumph Recordings, the track is peaceful and gentle. The simple, sparse instrumentation allows for Ezra's beautiful, pure vocals to shine. Soaring harmonies that blend effortlessly are the perfect accompaniment to Ezra's vocals. The track pulses along steadily for the most part but builds up dramatically after the second verse in a crescendo of harmonies, before dropping off again delicately.
A simple yet stunning track, Storm is a romantic, soothing single. I look forward to seeing what is next for this talented up and coming artist.
Poneke-based artist Ezra Phoenix, a bird risen from the ashes, is here to confront and converse; Ezra wants to shake up certain communities and get people talking.
Ezra Phoenix (real name Solomon Esera) has been entertaining and performing most of his life, but only started exploring songwriting in 2011 when he attended a Performing Arts school in Auckland, New Zealand. His love for songwriting has since developed into the main tool of his expression, utilizing Pop and RnB vocals and acapella music.
Ezra released his first debut single Run With The Wild Ones in November 2020 to announce his arrival into this world. Not too long after followed his mission statement with Love My Brain, Boy in January 2021, which was also accompanied with an official music video directed by Ezra and captured by Filmmaker Lee Gingold.
