Video Nasty are a three piece hailing from Auckland.
Having formed in 2020, their cacophony sound is a blend of noise rock that gives you reason to listen.
Released in 2021 by Powertool Records, this was their debut EP - Menthol b/w Filthy.
The opening track, Menthol is the kind of sludge fury one would expect and Video Nasty do not disappoint. While uniquely their own, I hear influences of Nirvana, (Bleach and Incesticide era respectively) tinged with punk overtones, creating a great blend of distorted chaos. While there are those influences of familiarity, vocally Jack Gannaway has his own great pitch and tone that adds strength.
On the second and final track, Filthy, and my favourite of the two, perfectly blended riffs, frustration and melody take front and centre.
Again, with those early Nirvana influences but with their own spin which I really like. You can hear their chaotic energy that is equally polished. Alongside bassist Tommy Maitai and drummer Sam Kemp, they have formed a well-oiled machine that precedes their young years.
Well done guys, I look forward to hearing more.
