Pale Lady - Single Review: Never Satisfied

07 Apr 2022 // A review by River Tucker

2017 Battle Of The Bands national champions Pale Lady have hit another home run with their latest single; Never Satisfied. Contrary to the song title, you can tell these four young guys who hail from Wellington are having shit loads of fun playing this fantastic song.

Marking a significant change away from the bands previous releases, including pop-punk interpretations of well-known classics, Never Satisfied sits gloriously in no man’s land between other commercial and alternative styles. It’s a multifaceted arrangement with excellent tempo and dynamic changes, which provides ample energy to get the crowd up and dancing.

Pale Lady is predominantly a party band and you cannot help but jive to their contagious grooves on display throughout this absolute champ of a track.

Laid back guitar playing during the verses contrasts nicely with upbeat and powerful riffing in choruses, build-ups and other refrains. There’s even a 60's Batman inspired melody thrown in for good measure. Throughout their clinical execution of numerous styles Pale Lady keeps it all together to provide what is a comprehensive and match winning release.

Although keyboards and guitar solos can at times get a bit glam rock chaotic, there’s really not much to be faulted. Make sure you check it out today.

About Pale Lady

Founded in late 2016, Pale Lady consists of four rock fanatics who found themselves in the same music degree. Since then, it has been non stop writing and gigging to bring something new to Rock n Roll. Their music is diverse, with influences both from old school classics and modern rock.

Pale Lady’s sound is characterised by the layered elements and high energy. At a show you can expect to hear catchy vocal melodies, heavy riffs and guitar solos a plenty. Since winning the 2017 National Battle Of The Bands, the band has been working towards upcoming releases. They will bring out new music over the course of 2018, leading up to their Europe tour in August.

Silcrow - EP Review: Silcrow
14 Jun 2024 // by River Tucker
Aiming for the stars, Silcrow’s seven-track EP merges American-style rock with a touch of Seattle grunge in a well-produced release that will appeal to many generations of music lovers, but mainly to those whose musical awakening happened sometime in the 90’s.As well as changing their name from Close To The Bone to the much more kick-arse Silcrow, these four young guys from Auckland have been working hard on the live circuit (bar a short hiatus during lockdown) to get their songs fully dialled in and ready for the studio.

Album Review: The Death Spell
12 Dec 2023 // by River Tucker
There’s a real whisky drinking, bare knuckle fighting edge to the self-titled debut album by The Death Spell, kicking off with Nail You Higher Than Before. Obviously, song lyrics are in your face on this track, especially for any Christians in the audience, but you couldn’t ask for a better intro to the musical style of this Auckland-based band.
