Violet Highway - Single Review - Sick of Waiting

12 May 2022 // A review by tonymcdonald

I love the ending to this pop rock song - it's not your typical finish... so, make sure to check the song out all the way through.

Auckland three-piece Violet Highway have teamed up with Scallywag Records to record this single as part of a not-for-profit project called the 'Live Rooms'. The sound quality is fantastic and it really gives it a great live feel, huge!

If you check out the YouTube live performance here from March 2022, it looks like their live performances are sweet.

Violet Highway have a powerful, but poppy with heavy guitar spilling out all over this track. There's some great riffs from the 80’s and punchy power chords which accompany great melodic storytelling vocals from lead singer Jacqui. Carrying the song forward whilst being a trio means someone has to double up on instruments. That’s Jacqui on Guitar and vocals, nice!

What instantly grabbed me was the Cure-esq bass riff. Not a million miles away from A Forest, which makes it sound retro and cool. I Love it. I am looking forward to seeing what this young group pull out of the bag next.

Rating: ( 5 / 5 )

About Violet Highway

Violet Highway is a female fronted three piece that plays a fiery blend of Rock, Pop and Blues that will leave you torn between dancing up a storm and drunk texting your ex.

They match passionate lyrics with catchy melodies and powerful instrumentation. Lead vocalist Jacqui belts out a tone described by listeners as "PJ Harvey meets Joan Jett" alongside her own gritty guitar work. The band’s rhythm section is defined by attention grabbing bass riffs from Joel and playful, energetic drumming from Sam.

New Zealand’s very own Blink 182, Elemeno P, with support from Fruit Juice Parade and Valentina hit San Fran, on a fantastic warm Wellington evening. It was packed out; beers were flowing, and the sticky smell of the low-ceilinged venue was absolutely buzzing.
