Paul The Kid - Single Review: Close My Eyes

01 Jun 2022 // A review by Ben Ruegg

Paul The Kid is an extremely diverse artist, combining an eclectic mix of contemporary genres with prominent themes of hip-hop, dance and reggae to create absolute bangers. Paul is most at home performing live and his shows generate an eccentric energy that invites the audience to get involved in the party.

On his track Close My Eyes the music develops and builds to what I feel is one of the coolest surprises in a song I have heard in a long time. With an almost dub vibe starting of the track, laid back and cool with a sombre feel to it, Paul The Kid sings about just shutting his eyes what is happening in life and knowing that he needs to face up to life.

"All the pressure to cook is boiling up and I should mellow out and I would. But I gotta get it done. I didn’t put my life into this just to run"

By the end of track, it twists and morphs into a feelgood song where the lead melody stays the same, but the harmony underneath changes, giving a new feel to it. It works so well that you really want to hit repeat to go through the motions again.

An excellent track and well worth your time.
