Flaxxies are Benji Humphries (vocals) with Nick Tait (rhythm guitar), Eric Goodger (lead guitar), Chris Manning (bass) and Jayden Welsh (drums). King of The Reef, has got the pace of early Arctic Monkeys. It’s the sort of music which accompanies you on a trip – it is weekend music. For those sunny days where you have relaxing on your mind.
Karma Goblin, is a more reflective track in lyrical content and the composition, which fits that mood. Maybe it’s about longing a little. I like the arrangement here and Humphries vocals bend and stretch around the vowels delivering an original yet familiar tune. The production of the track with the almost isolated sound of the cymbal, at the end of the track and the pared back slow down, lends it a post rock vibe.
Lot 61 the final track is an instant reggae soundtrack to summer. It’s definitely my favourite and is the latest single release as well. Humphries opening lyrics is: ‘Is anybody out there?’ I’m pretty sure he’s looking out to sea, in this moment. You’ll need to pull up a chair and pour yourself a drink to watch the sunset when you put this on. It also has a beautiful guitar section; I’d hope for an extended solo at live shows.
This is a pocket-sized release which brings relief from wintery days and a reminder of the summer ahead.
