Jason Parker - Single Review - How To Be Lonely

03 Sep 2022 // A review by IShadowcasterI

Jason Parker has been described as a "Popstar in the making", and it is easy to see why when listening to his music. From the catchy, upbeat sound of This Is My Year or the slow, yet powerful delivery of You Rescued Me, Jason shows so much promise, and the single from his upcoming EP of the same name is here to show you just that.

How To Be Lonely is a house-inspired pop song recorded in 2021 during lockdown in Jason's bedroom, and being produced and mixed by Alvyn Tan. One of the first things that hit me about this track was the vocals, but more specifically just how much fun is being had. You can just see the big smile across Jason's face while he is singing hook after catchy hook. The vocal performance put on is great, and paired with the driving drums give us a song that is just fun.

But let's not ignore the message within the lyrics of the song. Jason uses this song to discuss the struggles of love, and opening one's self up to it. And, while some lines come off as a bit cliché, I can't help but find myself singing along.

So, we have a song that is catchy, easy to sing along with, and just a whole lot of fun. However, this is at a cost; the song does end up feeling kind of safe. From start to finish, the song doesn't really travel very far, carrying the same energy the whole way through. And, while I enjoy the song quite a bit, I do wonder if some more dynamic shifts in the song could have carried it to that next level.

Overall, Jason has written an ear worm that is overflowing with fun. And, while I am quite happy adding this to my own playlist of music, it has me excited to see what else Jason has prepared for us when his EP releases on 11th November 2022.

Until then, you can find the music video for How To Be Lonely HERE (Recorded in the Wairarapa by Daisy Thor Poet - Tinted Productions), or listen to this track and his previous songs over on Spotify or Apple Music.

About Jason Parker

Say hello to Jason Parker. A singer/songwriter from Wellington, New Zealand.
Jason Parker has been in a committed relationship with Pop music ever since he realised the TV remote doubles as a microphone. Inspired by female powerhouse vocalists like Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson, his catchy hooks and one-of-a-kind vocals will have you crying and dancing all while singing at the top of your lungs.

Jason Parker's debut single You Rescued Me can be described as a cinematic, pop anthem that highlights his honest songwriting and vocal talents. After appearing on Popstars NZ and winning the hearts of the NZ public, Jason began studio sessions with producer Alvyn Tan to create the magic that is ‘You Rescued Me’. Kimbra was quoted in Stuff as saying “[Jason has] charisma, sense of self-confidence and voice that can really move a room.” Writing music in secret for years, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity gave Jason the confidence to take his songs out of his notepad and into the world.
