Otepoti musician Molly Devine releases her new EP Still Here today, on November 4th.
The three track EP is a collection of thoughtful and powerful songs that tell the story of Devine's experience with dating app Bumble. Devine's take on the experience is anything but sweet, with Still Here showcasing confronting stories about the reality of online dating.
First track is lead single Tough. A messy yet beautiful combination of powerful, passionate lyrics, mixed with delicate, intimate moments, Tough showcases Devine’s ability to tell stories with dynamic variation. She gives us angry, almost desperate moments in the song’s chorus, and then immediately follows these with delicate vulnerability. The track is a stirring and fiery introduction to Still Here.
The second track is Tattoo, a softer, smoother track. A calming song compared to its predecessor, Tattoo still manages to ooze with emotion and thoughtfulness.
The EP concludes with title track Still Here. Full instrumentation is a welcome addition to the EP, with the song being the stand out of the trio. Devine once again shows off her vocal chops in the chorus. Still Here is defiant and empowering, but Devine still shows us her sensitive side as she closes the track in an almost whisper like fashion, as she sings "I'm still here."
Still Here, the EP, is a cohesive mini collection of songs bursting with emotion. Devine is an authentic storyteller, with her goosebump-inducing lyrics brimming with intensity. The variation in the tracks makes for a rollercoaster of a listening journey, but a thoroughly enjoyable and relatable one.
