Keeley Shade - Single Review: Restless

09 Dec 2022 // A review by Corinne Rutherford
Canadian born New Zealand raised singer-songwriter Keeley Shade has just dropped her latest single Restless. Keeley may have a small following at present, but she has a mighty sound representing a “niche brand of DIY female artist/producer in an Indie-Pop/Rock genre”.

Restless
is a soft pop and folk melody infused with a light touch of indie rock. Shade has a talent for lyrical storytelling, she has delivered a reflective and sincere account of the apprehension of your future in your 20's. The vocals, harmony and instrumentals combine to create a delicate soundscape.

This track applauds modern electro pop stripped back to gentle harmony and stirring instrumental arrangement. There is a tenderness to her vocals which effortlessly wash over you.

Keeley Shade is giving new meaning to ‘independent artist’ from writing, producing, and mixing to designing nearly all her promotional artwork. Restless was mastered by Kog Studio.

Shade is going from strength to strength and is an up-and-coming musical artist to watch out for.

Rating: ( 4 / 5 )

About Keeley Shade

Keeley Shade is a Canadian-born New Zealand singer-songwriter based in Auckland.

Keeley grew up in Whangaparaoa, playing songs of Bon Iver and Daughter quietly in her bathroom. Now with more of a pop/rock flair, and backed by a band, she retains poetic songwriting and building dreamscape arrangements.

Just a couple years after finishing degrees in Fine Art and Music, Keeley has been working as a designer, television editor, and music video producer for NZ musicians. Now quite literally taking the stage herself, she’s coming in strong with a sonically exciting and heartfelt debut single On My Mind, that integrates her folk roots with a love for lush and abstract pop production.
