10:32 - Single/Video Review: Coffee Shop Girl

23 Feb 2023 // A review by Corinne Rutherford
London based, future-soul collective 10:32 have recently released their latest single accompanied by a cosmic music video Coffee Shop Girl. Predominantly UK based, lead vocalist Bridget Walsh adds a Kiwi flavour.

Coffee Shop Girl
is a funky soulful track which is complimented by a beautifully animated video that is full of life and colour. A live action collaboration with Karolina Wielocha in London with animation led by Dane Jacobs in Christchurch. The psychedelic vibe of the video enhances the laid back grooviness of this track.

Made with the support of NZ On Air the song which is about falling in love with the possibility of things getting better, is a melting pot of jazz, hip-hop, breakbeat, house and RnB. It is modern and relaxed using analog synth and effect-drenched vocals to create an original sound.

Since debuting at the Isle Of Wight festival in 2018, 10:32 have toured internationally including opening for Six60 and releasing their successful single Seedling with award winning artist Troy Kingi.

Coffee Shop Girl gives the feeling of sitting in a funky cafe sipping on a turmeric latte creating an uber cool ambience.

10:32 are bringing their fresh sound down under to Aotearoa in March 2023.

Rating: ( 4 / 5 )

About 10:32

With an emphasis on love, light and big vibes, 10:32 (yes, like the time) is a future-soul collective from London featuring Lyle Barton, Radovan Brtko and Bridget Walsh. 10:32 debuted at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2018 and have since toured internationally with sessions, shows, broadcasts and festivals in the UK, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Australia and the USA. For fans of artists including Hiatus Kaiyote, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Thundercat and more, 10:32’s magic-making groove party takes you on a tasty adventure through galaxies of jazz, hiphop, breakbeat, house and RnB, with a celestial sprinkling of analogue synths, wavy vocals, booty-shaking grooves and chakra-shaking breakdowns.

"A beautiful, jazzy, soulful journey with the lushest vocals" - Tony Minvielle, Jazz FM [UK]?

10:32’s 2021 EP Aequus Animus was recorded at London’s Total Refreshment Centre and produced by Hackney-based Melbourne artist, Lewis Moody (ZFEX, 30/70). A follow up single version of Seedling was released for Earth Day with award-winning Aotearoa artist, Troy Kingi. Seedling was a featured track on NZ on Air's compilation for NZ Music Month 2021, and Aequus Animus was a top Bandcamp pick by Jazz FM the same month. With previous shows and broadcasts including RNZ, Electric Brixton, NZ’s National Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scott’s, 2022 has seen the band recalibrate and renew their vision post-pandemic with a host of new tunes concocted on a farm in rural Oxfordshire. The band has been awarded funding and support from New Zealand’s national broadcasting arm, NZ on Air for their upcoming single Coffee Shop Girl in early 2023 and recently opened for Aotearoa’s hugely successful band, Six60 at their sold out London show.
