Lizard Prom's EP, Thanks For Everything I Had A Wonderful Time, is a captivating dive into the moody, atmospheric realm of rock music, characterised by dreamy textures and an undercurrent of aggression. With five tracks that deliver chaotic and hypnotic qualities, this EP is a noteworthy addition to the Aotearoa (New Zealand) music scene.
Valencia, the opening track and lead release, serves as an enticing introduction to Lizard Prom's distinctive sound. Ethereal vocals gracefully intertwine with heavy guitar work, setting the tone for the EP.
Unintentional, takes a slower approach, featuring simple, clean bass and guitar riffs complemented by the band's signature vocal style. Initially It offers a sense of security but eventually reverts to a heavier sound, showcasing influences from the doom genre while maintaining their own unique touch.
Choke brings a burst of energy to the EP, with primal drums and powerful belting vocals. This track is short and sweet, with a delightful dose of chaos.
Ghosts is the standout track on the EP for me, filled with atmospheric sounds and pulsating energy. It takes the listener on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, showcasing the band's ability to create a captivating sonic journey.
The EP's finale, Asleep, wraps up the eclectic collection of tracks perfectly. It maintains the moody and melodic atmosphere that characterises the EP as a whole.
Overall, Thanks For Everything I Had A Wonderful Time has a cinematic quality, as if it could serve as the soundtrack to a 90's horror movie. This EP is a compelling offering from a band that is filling a unique space in the Aotearoa music scene.
