One of the most prolific MC's to come out of Drum and Bass in the last ten years, Tali's ability to freestyle and sing soulful, positive and intelligent vocals over the mix, has seen her stay top of her game. She has won numerous awards, released two new albums in the last 12 months ("Dark Days, High Nights" - Audioporn Records) and toured the world extensively as both an MC and live act.
Originally from a Dairy Farm in Taranaki, Tali moved to the UK ten years to follow her dreams of becoming a top international MC.
After signing to the legendary Full Cycle Label owned and run by Roni Size, Tali went onto to release the first ever MC album 'Lyric on my Lip' with a UK top 40 single and worldwide tour and selling over 15,000 albums.
From here she collaborated with some of the scene's most prolific names in both production and DJ/MC shows, working alongside people such as Goldie, Fabio and Grooverider, Shy FX, Benga, Dodge and Fuski, SkisM, Shapeshifter, Dirtyphonics, Ed Rush, The EZ Rollers, The Freestylers, Calibre, DJ Marky.. the list goes on.
Tali's vocals feature on the Activison game 'DJ Hero' and her songs have been used in promotion for Rob Durdeks 'Fantasty Factory' on the Xtreme Sports Channel (Sky UK), Really TV, (UK) and Soccer Am (Sky1) and her voice overs are used on BBC Radio 1 and BBC radio 1Xtra.
Last year Tali also composed the music for a political comedy musical ("Nicked" - Hightide Theatre Festival Ltd) which previewed on the West End, and won rave reviews in The Guardian, Observer and Evening Standard, and she also has vast experience in tutoring, mentoring, writing and vocal producing for other artists.
As well as this Tali has written for ATM, Knowledge, Nu:Soul, and Guestlist Network publications in the UK and US and more recently for 'Her' Magazine here in New Zealand.
Tali has hosted shows from intimate club venues to Festival stages with thousands in attendance, and last year saw the release of her Sophomore album 'Dark Days, High Nights' in two parts, one an electronic version and the other a live acoustic recording produced by the legendary Ant Miles.
Tali is now based back in Auckland, New Zealand and is already creating a buzz having recently toured the country with Mutated Forms, DrumSound and Bassline Smith, SkisM, ReepsOne, The Upbeats, Dirtyphonics and Logistics.
Tali also performed on stage at La De Da, Rhythm and Alps, Splore and Winchfest, and has been back and forth to Australia and Japan since arriving back on this side of the world.
Never one to rest on her Laurels, Tali now hosts 'The Morning Sickness' (alongside Tim Lamborne) every Saturday morning from 10 a.m on George FM (96.6 FM) and has also created the first female only MC/Lyricist workshops, tutoring and mentoring young ambitious women who have a passion for lyrics and vocals, following on from this with one on one song writing sessions.
Tali has also just recently completed her fifth album - produced by Christoph Bauschinger and mastered by Evan Short. 'Of Things To Come' is a totally new direction for Tali. Focusing more on an Electro - Pop vibe, This is an album of ten songs showcasing her ability to song write and deliver beautiful lyrics and melodies with big catchy choruses.
Tali is looking to release this independently in October of this year (2012 distributed by Rhythm Method), as well as this she has put together a live 7 piece band and will be performing with them across the country this summer.
Tali is unique in her ability to both free style and sing, write and compose, teach and advise, and is therefore one of the most credible and dynamic artists currently touring NZ to date.

MC Tali and Roni Size Posted: Tue Feb 10, 2004 8:17 pm Firstly - get really good at what you do. Secondly - go to your favourite artists gig. Thirdly - have the gumption to get up on stage with them and whisper what you do in the ear of the man (or woman) that makes the calls on stage. And that is how MC Tali met Roni Size, the visionary UK producer behind Mercury Prize winner act Reprazent and Breakbeat Era. Tali impressed him so much, he took Dynamite off the mic and let Tali take over and show her skills. The crew suggested that Tali come and work with them in Bristol and so Tali upped sticks and moved to Britain. Six months after their first meeting, Tali turned up on Roni's doorstep armed with three notebooks full of songs. Before long, the members of Roni Size's label, Full Cycle convened an emergency meeting and decided to ask the girl from the other side of the world to become their newest recruit. "I was totally obsessed with their sound", Tali says. "It's soulful, deep, but never too dark. It‚s funky and uplifting. All the elements that I would say reflect me are what they put out." MC Tali is already well known in NZ Drum N Bass and Hip Hop circles having paid her dues by starting her own radio show and joining a tour promotions team to bring British DJs to play all over NZ in the late 90's. Originally from New Plymouth - MC Tali is a classically trained singer and pianist, but her first passion is song writing and composing - Tali has been writing and recording her own music since she was 10. Since that fateful day when she won over Roni Size with a couple of rhymes whispered in his ear, MC Tali has blossomed. It took Tali only a few months to be recognized as the hottest talent on the drum and bass scene worldwide. Her performance as an MC alongside a DJ is unique, thanks to how she switches from her superb freestyling into beautiful singing. There have been two singles released on vinyl in the UK, the first, 'Lyric On My Lip'‚ selling out in the first day and the second 'High Hopes'‚ which received great support from UK‚s influential Radio One, and expectation for the debut album has been growing with each single. Tali's debut album 'Lyric On My Lip' will be released in New Zealand in March as the third single 'Blazin'‚ is sent out to radio stations. The album contains songs that are rough and funky drum and bass rhythms; others are classy and infectious urban pop songs, and some futuristic soul. MC Tali has just made her live debut with a full band, and plans are already under way to bring her to Australia and NZ. |
