Rock and Roll is not dead - in fact it is alive and living in Christchurch. I’m talking about the clear, raw sound of Getafix.
Remember the days when garage bands were cool? Getafix delivers a combination of deep bass iced with wailing guitar is extremely hot and totally consuming- makes you want a cigarette when they’re done with you.
The players are Josh Williamson (vocals) from Pakihikura; Fabian Low (guitar) from Singapore; Dan Raggett (bass) from Gisborne; Jeremy London (guitar) from Akaroa; and Kalem Mallon (drums) from Christchurch. These five guys have put emotion and soul; heart and heat into their music. The collaboration of sound and lyrics is entirely a group effort.
Some people beg to differ, but I think lyrics are only as powerful as the music that surrounds them. 'Walking To The Beat' brings through enormous rhythm and inducing lyrics that displays hip-hop in a new way.
'Dead Weight Loss' is another example of real individual style. This track has an incredible sound that unless you don’t have a pulse, you just can’t sit still! Everyone has a favourite band like this – they’re anything but boring.
For first time listeners, this band somewhere between 311 and Black Flag. The collaboration of extreme energy and jagged, edgy sound is highly addictive.
