Adam And The Sparrows

Bio

Adam and the Sparrows play to all comers in all settings for all kinds of reasons. The songs are simple but they ain't dumb, the sound is soft but roars like only acoustics can. The tunes are folkish, country even, but they rock as they roll and sit sad and angry but always with hope and a little wonder.

Like a boxer, I guess, punch drunk and alone taking a dusty ride through an ugly city in a dirty world but still hoping and praying looking out windows and dreaming, thinking, making plans and believing. Which is something I guess and if something is better than nothing then that's where the story begins.

Adam and friends weren't doing anything. He had nothing going but boxing records at the local store, twiddling thumbs and writing and waiting, hoping for a train ride out. The others were close to the same. Well, time ticks slow and it came to pass that they could make something of their own, something that would speed the procession of days just a little faster and at least give them something to do.

So with a couple a junk shop guitars (thanks Frank Cronin) and a beat organ swiped from the seven day adventists the Sweet Hearts were formed and they tried to hack through some songs and of course… it was rubbish. They went back and consulted the scriptures, Nebraska by Springsteen, Johnny Cash, the Shangrilas and the Smiths, the Clash, Woody's autobiography, some free wheelin' Dylan, a little shit kickin' Steve Earle and with the stomp of John Lee and the heart of T.Van Zandt somewhere in the back they started again. It was still rubbish. House music was looking good but as they couldn't afford the clothes or the drugs and as they'd rather drink instant than red bull it fell right back out of favor.

Yet they practiced hard, kept their heads and their hearts open and decided to be who they were as best they could and got it going.

However with all grand plans things stumble and trip and so did the Sweet Hearts yet with the same beat inside him and some backslaps and words of hope and friendship from the others he took to the floor himself and he stood there with those songs and that big old heart of his just kicking him on and on. He dug it but missed the company of others. So… with a pocketful of decoder rings and badges the Sparrows were born. With a floating membership and a try it and see attitude the sparrows become a force for good when pickin' along with McGrath, keeping him in friends and kicks as well as making the songs sound sweeter. Permanent members Jo Knox (Sweet Hearts alumni) and Fraser Austin (the breaking heart of one show wonders the Chase) thankfully offer their services and bring the thrills and spills of hanging with a band back to life.

So as the light falls and the clouds roll and as records skip and pages turn McGrath and the sparrows'll be there, taking it all in… like its all they know how to do.
