Kiwi Producer teams up with NYC’s finest Posted: Thu Jul 3, 2003 8:59 am Mark de Clive-Lowe's broken beat soul anthem 'Relax...Unwind' has been signed up by Masters At Work's Kenny Dope Gonzalez and Little Louie Vega for full 12" release in August on MAW Records. The first time a New Zealand artist has had their own single on MAW Records, the release gives Mark de Clive-Lowe's music and production the ultimate seal of approval. "Kenny and Louie both love the song, they'd been playing it all over the world DJing and asked me if they could put it out on MAW Records. For me it's a really positive step – MAW is a label that a lot of people always check for and they expect something different, fresh and totally cutting edge. I know that 'Relax' is going to give them exactly that. It's like a hip hop producer having their latest track picked up by Dr Dre - it doesn’t get much better than that!" First showcased on Dego of 4Hero's compilation 'Good Good 2' (2000Black), and featured on the new CD 'Melodius Beats Volume 1' (Antipodean/Universal NZ), 'Relax...Unwind' introduces UK newcomer Abdul Shyllon delivering the vocals and MdCL handling the rest from top to bottom - for the techies, that means the MPC3000, Emu sampler, the trusty Mac, an arsenal of keyboards and one bumping bassline. 'Relax...Unwind' has already reached near legendary status on the decks of Masters At Work, DJ Spinna, Jazzanova, 4Hero, Bugz in the Attic, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Gilles Peterson and many more. In the global broken beat community, where producers and DJs are constantly challenging and evolving forms of dance music to find new things, MdCL has produced a timeless classic. "...the broken beat anthem of the year..." - Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio1 Worldwide) |

Mark de Clive-Lowe News Posted: Mon Apr 14, 2003 7:59 pm Mark de Clive Lowe has been busy since his departure from Auckland to the UK four years ago. Then, fresh from his debut album "Six Degrees", levels of separation did begin to drop away and basically through his connection with Nathan Haines, offers of both producing and remixing began knocking on his door. When last renewing his artist visa he recognised he had about 60 tracks under his belt, either recorded in his own right, produced or remixed, as well as a good dollop of live and session work. Highlights include de Clive-Lowe's "Day By Day" which was licensed by the Cafe del Mar compilations to be remixed by DJ Spinna. Then, this song lead him to join an esteemed bunch of producers who remixed a back-catalogue of Verve releases, with Mark choosing a classic Shirley Horn track. Mark realised though, that many of the tracks he?s worked on haven?t been well distributed in New Zealand so decided himself that the "cream of the crop" had to be released here. Thus later this month we should see on the shelves "Melodius Beats Volume One", the first release on de Clive-Lowe's newly established record label, Antipodean. He plans to bring his band to New Zealand for a tour at the end of the year. And in between all of that, he is also making time to be a daddy. |
