Schoolboy friends James Reid and Hamish Gee started a legacy that is hard to match. Twentyfive years ago they formed one of our best-loved bands The Feelers and started on a journey that has spawned catalogue of some of the greatest songs written in New Zealand. They truly are a household name.
Along the way they have amassed some remarkable statistics, a quarter of a million albums sold, five multi-platinum albums, five number one albums, seven number one singles, the largest selling NZ band ever signed by Warner Music NZ in their 48 year history, 5 NZ Music Awards, 3 APRA most played song of the year awards and more radio airplay than any other New Zealand artist or band since radio stats began in 1999.
The Feelers have gone from busking on street corners to becoming pioneers of the Kiwi music industry, thanks largely to the song writing genius of James Reid.
Some of the many hits along the way have been Pressure Man, Venus, Communicate, Larger Than Life, One World, Astronaut and of course the 2011 Rugby World Cup song Right Here, Right Now, a cover of the Jesus Jones hit song,
Another classic track Stand Up written by The Feelers was the 'Official Soccer World Cup Song' for The All Whites campaign during 2010 and was awarded the 2005 APRA Most Played Radio Song.
Band Members:

THE FEELERS GO NO.1 Posted: Fri Nov 24, 2006 6:09 pm The Feelers brand new album ‘One World’ lands the double jackpot. The Feeler’s fourth studio album ‘One World’ has debuted at #1. It is their first chart topper since second album Communicate opened at the top spot in 2001. And to complete the double, ‘One World’ has been certified platinum barely a week after it hit the shelves. the feelers head into summer with a #1 album under their belt, a multi-format radio hit tucked in there as well AND a New Zealand-wide summer tour in the offing. This wave of success has prompted an outpouring of praise from NZ On Air head honcho Brendan Smyth, who credited the band for helping take New Zealand music on radio to giddy new heights over the last 10 years… “We spotted the feelers at a very early stage and back then we barely had 2% Kiwi music on the radio. Now, 10 years later and with 20 airplay hits under their belts – 8 of them #1 Rock Airplay songs – we are nearing 20%. Coincidence? I don’t think so”. |

I'm also making a Word document that has all the lyrics if you want that at some stage. I'm halfway done with that. Actually I'm looking at making a site for music lyrics so if anyone is interested then please let me know by way of e-mail. My address is: [email protected] If I get enough interest I'll set the site up very quickly and we can all start adding lyrics. It won't just be New Zealand stuff though. |

Playground Battle Tour Posted: Sat May 1, 2004 11:33 am With a new single out and yet another outrageously successful album to their name, The Feelers - unquestionably New Zealand’s hardest working, not to mention notorious, live band - are on the road again. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 6 years you don’t need telling that The Feelers are one of New Zealand’s most successful bands since releasing their debut album, 'Supersystem', in August 1998. 'Supersystem' went on to multi-platinum sales and spawned four huge hits, 'Pressure Man', 'Supersystem', 'Space Cadet', and 'Venus'. The band went on to win the APRA Silver Scroll for most played song two years in a row for 'Venus' and 'Supersystem', and highlighted singer & guitarist James Reid as one of New Zealand’s best songwriters. 'Communicate', The Feelers second album, and another multi-paltinum hit and produced the five top 10 singles, 'Astronaut', 'Communicate', 'As Good As It Gets', 'Fishing For Lisa', and 'Anniversary'. 'Playground Battle' the trio’s third album released in November 2003 shows no sign of abating the trend having already reached platinum status. The monster rock hit of summer, 'Larger Than Life', and current single 'Weapons Of War' are both a hell of a lot heavier than much of The Feelers previous work and superbly suited for a band that thrives on classic kiwi hard rocking As is the norm for The Feelers, there is no doing things by half. The Playground Battle Tour takes in 18 cities from Auckland to Invercargill. Adding to the firepower this time round is support band Opshop who release their debut album 'You Are Here' during May on the back of two rock radio hits 'Nothing Can Wait' and 'Secrets'. For Opshop guitarist Tim Skedden there will a bit of déjà vu – he was second guitarist in The Feelers touring unit throughout the 'Supersystem' and 'Communicate' years! Last word is left to The Feeler’s powerhouse drummer Hamish Gee: "Playground Battle is an eclectic album, and it has got quite a live feel because when we play live we like to get our balls out a bit." Exactly. Tickets on sale now from Ticketek, selected Sounds stores, the venues or usual outlets. For further information please contact Peter Campbell at Brent Eccles Entertainment: Email: [email protected] Phone: (09) 638 8235 For full gig details click here |

James Reid, Anika Moa Tour Cancelled Posted: Sat Aug 31, 2002 6:11 pm UNFORESEEN circumstances - that was the official explanation given by their publicists for why the national tour by Anika Moa and solo Feeler James Reid has been cancelled. Specifically, Reid's band had extended their promotional jaunt in Britain and the US, meaning he just couldn't make the 23 dates due to start this Tuesday in Putaruru which had been booked since the beginning of August. Well, no, not quite. The decision to pull the tour was because its ticket sales were poor, promoter Brent Eccles confirmed to TimeOut, adding that the scale of the tour proved too ambitious. However, there are plans for Moa - who has been warming a lot of television studio couches lately to promote the shows but cancelled her appearance on The Panel tonight - to tour nearer summer. Thanks to NZHERALD for this story. |
