MUPP3T and DARK RIVER are the Syndicate, a Dark Electro act that combines elements of post industrial, rock, EBM, synthpop and ambient into a unique sound which they find hard to pin down into a paticular genre.
The pair formed the Syndicate in March of 2003, along with Greg Burrows on backing vocals and programming. the trio began writing music and experimenting with various techniques to mould their current sound and look.
Then in late 2003 Greg decided to persue a solo project dubbed "RED MACHINE". Now a duo, the Syndicate set out to redesign themselves and re-write their songs to more closely match the direction they were now heading.
The pair worked constantly through 2003 and 2004 before releasing the song "where are we going?" on the Club Bizarre compilation album "reinventing sheep". After that, the band recorded a series of tracks at the MAINZ studio in Auckland before releasing a debut single "skyscrapers" to the audience of their first gig at the July Circadian Rhythms opening for established industrial metal act N.U.T.E. The band were well recieved by the audience that night and from there went on to record another track to add to the single, "Wasteland". this track was used to replace the cover of the Gary Numan Track "Cars"which appeared on the previous copies of the single. Another gig soon ensued, again with N.U.T.E at Mortifera in August. This Gig was a Turning point for the Band, who delivered a far superior live set to their debut, along with a whole new set of perviously unheard songs.
The Syndicate are currently writing new Tracks and hope to be releasing a demo EP next year. They are also interested in doing some shows in Wellington and possibly Sydney within the next year or two, and will be looking into this more in the months to come.
