The Town I Was Born
Words and Music John Michaelz
The Town I Was Born.
1965 the year of the snake, I opened my eyes and came awake.
The house is still standing the curtains are torn
In Motueka the town I was born
I took myself down to the beach on the key
Where new settlers arrived on the Lady Berkley
And the brave Janie seddon no longer seaborne
She defended the harbour in the town I was born
I stopped by the graveyard where my dear mothers layed
I shed a few tears then knelt down and prayed
And it’s all in decay now withered and worn
The old cemetery in the town I was born
Nothing can bring back the years I have lost
I’ve made my mistakes and i’ve carried my cross
If God in his wisdom has said and forsworn
They’ll bury my body in the town I was born
