The Auckland four-piece formed in early 2002 after vocalist Clint Bell returned home from Austin, Texas. While living in the Lone Star state, Clint absorbed himself in the alt-country talent that was on offer and wanted to bring some of those straight forward song writing ideas back home.

He quickly found a song writing partner in old friend and guitarist Chris Dickinson. It wasn't long before the pair realised that they could bang out a tune or two. Acquiring the services of Brendan Coyle on bass and Tyron Reyes on drums, they decided to share what they had to offer with the outside world.

Plymouth believes that if a song can be broken down to its simplest form and still appeal to the listener, it has potential. It has been said that the band's style conjures up comparisons to Wilco, Ryan Adams, Gomez and The Finn Brothers. Their first single 'Shining Star' (as well as another track - 'Hop, Skip & Jump') made it onto the NZ on Air Indie Hit Disc and has been beamed across the airwaves via Channel Z and Linda Clark's Nine 'Til Noon programme on National Radio. The self funded video for 'Shining Star' has been aired on TV One's programme Hum and has also received support from C4. Their live shows have received rave reviews, and it is the best way the band believes they can introduce new fans to their music. They have gained a reputation across Auckland for energetic and intense performances.
