Amy Bowie

Bio

Amy Bowie is a singer, a songwriter, an actress and voiceover artist. She writes and sings in multiple genres, from pop, to folk, crossover/musical theatre and beyond. With numerous TV, radio, stage and public appearances to her credit, she has worked with some of New Zealand’s best players, singers, producers and musical directors, including film composer Victoria Kelly, producer Joost Langeveld, and NZ Jazz Piano legend Doug Caldwell.

Amy is currently writing some music for a screen production (TBA) and recently contributed to Songbroker Music Publishing’s Project Sunrise Te Whitinga o te ra - Music From Tomorrow Morning, supported by Creative New Zealand. (Also TBA)

In 2016, Amy collaborated with London based Lyricist & Theatre Producer Rory Sherman on Ms - A Song Cycle, a musical theatre concept album created to raise awareness of the MS Society UK. Each song tells the story of a different woman affected by multiple sclerosis. Amy’s contribution, a song called Perhaps I’m Stronger Than I Think, was sung by West End Actress Jodie Jacobs in an album Executive Produced by Richard O’Brien (Rocky Horror) and produced by Simon Greiff with a stellar line-up of Musical Theatre composers and actresses involved including George Stiles & Caroline Quentin.

In 2014 Amy originated a concept for a new musical comedy web series which she co-created, co-wrote and co-produced a pilot for. Involving over 50 people and garnering the support of multiple organisations from across the Christchurch arts and business community, A Long Way From Broadway subsequently made the finals of the SPADA/South Pacific Pictures 2015 'Big Pitch'.

In 2012, Amy’s song Other People, originally written for a Los Angeles based friend’s short film, featured as the theme song to the national television campaign for KidsCan Charitable Trust. Other highlights for Amy include performing her original Christmas song Fairy Lights with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra after having performed the same song live to approx 150,000 people in the nationally televised Christchurch Coca-Cola Christmas In The Park in 2011. Her original song The Emotion featured on the Official NZ 2011 Olympic Campaign album, Anthem In Black. In 2005 Amy was a grand-finalist in TV2 Songstar – a nationally televised songwriting competition, with her song, Stupid Nothing Song featuring on the subsequent NZOA Kiwi Hit Disc.

As a voiceover artist Amy has worked for the past six years self-producing recordings for international clients in multiple accents, from Spotify ‘drops’ to e-learning, advertisements, animated video and more. She is also very used to working directed and remotely directed, with engineers in-studio. Credits include work on video games for local company Stickmen Media and a National TV ad for Lupi Olive Oil.

With an honours degree in Theatre and Film studies, Amy has a background in arts administration and currently works for an Arts Management software company in addition to freelance activities. Over the past nine years her work has included roles at the University of Canterbury School of Music, The Dance and Physical Theatre Trust and The Body Festival and crowdfunding platform, PledgeMe.
