Geneva

Bio

History and Achievements Geneva formed in 2004 as a West Auckland Ska band. The first song geneva ever wrote was made into a music video by TVNZ. Geneva entered into a competition on the television programme ‘Studio 2’. They won the competition and the song was made into a music video that was screened on national television in December 2004. The presenters loved the video so much it was screened again the next day. Over the summer of ’04 Geneva played parties and festivals building up a fan base of young, energetic Kiwis. In 2005 Geneva entered SmokefreeRockquest, Primal Battle of the Bands and Avondale College Talent Quest. In the heats of the Rockquest Geneva gained a perfect score of 45/45 and moved onto regional finals where once again they played a performance that could only be admired by the judges and were placed 2nd. Geneva was also awarded with the lyric award for “Skating To Ska”. Being placed in the regional led on to a performance with The Wbc, another New Zealand ska band.

For publicity coverage of the gig with The Wbc, Geneva had a story written in the Western Leader. Of the 700 bands that entered Rockquest Geneva was one of the final 44. Next year Geneva aims to be one of the 12 national finalists. In Primal Battle of the Bands Geneva won the West heat and moved onto the finals at which they had a great response from the crowd and won the vocal award. In the Avondale Talent Quest we came first for the bands section of the competition. Aside from that Geneva have been playing parties, events and recently a skate competition. Geneva has set up a website and recorded a 5 track demo CD at Mainz school of music and sound. Direction and goals In the future Geneva want to build a bigger fan base in New Zealand and contribute to making Ska a popular, mainstream genre in New Zealand. They hope to achieve this by playing more shows across the country to a wide range people. Geneva have recently played a festival called Primal Getaway.

Geneva have also just played with a reggae band called the Taliband from Wellington and will be appearing at the Parachute music festival in Hamilton. They plan to play at ‘The Kids Are Alright’, a new music show in the West auckland region and have planed gigs with Wheres Garys Duvet and Jonnydoom and the Forcefeilds and Task One.
