Ladi6 (Karoline Tamati) is one of New Zealand's premier vocalists and MCs. Starting her musical career in Christchurch, Ladi6 was part of the all-girl hip-hop group Sheelahroc. Sheelahroc had the hit track 'If I Gave You The Mic' and Ladi6 was nominated for Best Vocalist/MC at the 2003 bNet Music Awards.
Ladi6 then moved to Auckland with her band Verse Two who quickly gained a reputation as a top New Zealand live soul/hip-hop group. They won the bNet Best New Act Award in 2004, toured New Zealand with packed shows and supported international acts such as The Roots and De La Soul. Ladi6's vocals feature on stand-out tracks by some of Aotearoa's finest talent, including Shapeshifter, Scribe, Fat Freddy's Drop and 50Hz.
"There is something about her (Ladi 6), something about her voice and something about the way she carries herself and her attitude that is so nice and so beautiful". - Sam Trevethick, Real Groove

Ladi 6 and Parks clock almost 50 dates on their European Tour! Posted: Sun Jun 6, 2010 11:52 am New Zealand’s soulstress and hip hop queen Ladi6 in partnership with Parks have been making waves throughout Europe on their 6 month relocation to Berlin. Performing almost 50 shows including solo gigs and support for musical legends including Gil Scott Heron, Mos Def, French hip hop band Hocus Pocus and German hip hop stars Blumentopf. Ladi6 has signed her debut solo album Time Is Not Much to Berlin-based label BBE (the home of Madlib, DJ Vadim and Julien Dyne) which will be released throughout Europe and the United Kingdom on July 20 2010. Described by London’s Metro Magazine as ‘One to Watch’ they say “she knows how to make an impression – including a recent wow-inducing support slot for Gil Scott-Heron at London’s Southbank Centre…Ladi6’s debut album Time Is Not Much is due an official British release on the BBE label this summer, so it shouldn’t be long before British audiences wise up to this lucky number” It’s not slowing down – another two months of European and UK shows to complete before touring Japan and Australia then heading back to her homeland of New Zealand to tour in November. |
