The Enright House

Bio

The Enright House is probably something of chimera in terms of sound: instead of being one third lion, one third she-goat, and one third serpent, however, we are probably more one part indie-pop, one rather large part post-rock and one rather not-so-large part electronica.

The press have described our sound as anything from "pop as pop should be" to "skittery percussion, ethereal drones with metallic resonances, and disturbingly atmospheric sounds...". Think Death Cab For Cutie meets Mogwai. Sigur Ros meets Pinback. Philip Glass meets a distortion pedal. Poetry meets numbers. Up meets down. Light meets the drain-pipe.

In performance, The Enright House incorporates live and mechanized drums, synths, field recordings, poetry and a lot of guitars, the latter of which are typically manipulated with bows, screws, bottle caps, glass rods, chopsticks, copper wire, stainless steal picks, some love, some violence, and a handful of derelict effects.

Enright House & Pushmi-Pullyu Split EP, 'Together', now available for free download

Combining a traditional limited-edition release model with a contemporary music-for-free ethos and a healthy dose of voyeurism*

(Chicago, USA – July 4th, 2009) Criticized by a Silent Ballet reviewer as an album on which "talking people just won’t shut up", New Zealand band The Enright House and Madison-based Pushmi-Pullyu are pleased to announce that their split EP "Together" is now almost sold out and - as of today - available for free download at www.theenrighthouse.bandcamp.com.

"Together" was originally released in April of this year on mam!records as a limited-edition CD, and given that both artists and label have fully re-couped their costs, it seemed only natural to set the release free online.

While "Together" focuses on the more introspective and ambient side of both The Enright House and Pushmi-Pullyu, the release also presented a particularly exciting opportunity for The Enright House to explore the emerging role of fore-grounded spoken-word recordings in contemporary music. The song "Distance", in particular, skirts the borders of voyeurism, having been created by two lovers lying on their bed for three hours, with microphones dangling above their heads, discussing the painful end to their relationship.

Perhaps the heavy use of spoken-word recordings will prove too polarizing and disorienting for some to take pleasure in, but as Francis Bacon once remarked, "There is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion" - a mantra to which The Enright House whole-heartedly subscribe to. For some people, it seems, simple beauty is just too comfortable, too easy, too boring.

You can download your free copy of "Together" at www.theenrighthouse.bandcamp.com
