Ahh yes, Douglas. A phoenix rising from the ashes of a number of bands, both domestic and international, in such a convoluted fashion that the family tree alone would take up the entire space allotted for our bio. Why douglas? Initial rehearsals took place in a tiny, freezing farmhouse equidistant between Mounts Taranaki & Ruapehu in the minute farming village of, very good you down the back, douglas. A band was born, a name adopted, a meandering journey commenced. Based around the pop-driven songwriting of Icky, the keyboard player and vocal vocalist, the sound that has grown up around these three & four minute vignettes could best be described as, well, something that is driven by shattered glass guitar lines that occasionally turn to squally sheets of sound, depending on what Geet had for breakfast, whilst the rhythm section are solid, innovative and prone to some offbeat experimentation that takes it all away from four-on-the-floor to something a little more challenging.
Comparisons rile but I suppose Interpol wouldn't hate us, The Killers might ask us for a riff and perhaps The Bunnymen, The Church and a few other revisionists might recognise a debt or two. Who could say? We're not the Scissor Sisters (or brothers). Pop, rock, spark, drive- you decide. We just enjoy it.
