Sora Shima

Bio

With a sensual sound once described by Under The Radar as "properly abstract, terrifyingly beautiful", Hamiltonian sonic rock architects SORA SHIMA have been quietly (or perhaps not so quietly) honing their instrumental craft since 2006. Through echo-woven melodies, celestial reverberations and earthly resonances, "dark and dreamy" Sora Shima are reknowned for their unique ability to lull audiences, blissfully unaware of the aural tidal wave about to strike at a moment's notice.

Without the confines of words, the music speaks for itself, or rather, the music IS the voice - a direct line to the imagination. Whatever colourful language you use to describe this unique four-piece, the only way to truly experience the awesomeness that is Sora Shima is to witness their stunning live set - a vivid experience you'll not soon forget.

Band Members:
Gavin McDermott (drums)
Jae Lurman (guitar)

Sora Shima - South Island Tour February 2011
Posted: Sun Jan 16, 2011 9:18 pm

The skies will darken over the South Island as Hamilton instrumental overlords SORA SHIMA briefly descend from their shoegaze-alt-rock cloud island in Feburary.

The post-rock four-piece will touch down for three shows before returning to the mothership/Hamiltron for shield regeneration and snacks..

For their first trip beyond the Cook Strait, Sora Shima will combine the power of their three EPs, rarities compilation and imminent album to form an unstoppable protector of the far universe, a bit like Captain Planet. But more like Voltron.

SORA SHIMA - SOUTH ISLAND TOUR 2011

Feb 3rd - Dux De Lux, Christchurch - w/ T54
Feb 4th - El Santo, Lyttleton - w/ Valdera & Coate
Feb 5th - XII Below, Dunedin - w/ Idiot Prayer & Kahu
