Seven years ago Chris Yong was lead guitar for Tadpole, playing tracks from their double platinum debut album 'Buddhafinger' to large audiences across Australasia and supporting the likes of Killing Heidi, Living End, Placebo, Live and Sugar Ray and Regurgitator.
He left the band in 2003 and discussed the possibility of starting his own band with brother and drummer, Richard. “We had a jam together and it just felt good,” says Chris.
The pair officially formed redline six months later, with Chris stepping into the frontman role as vocalist.
Once joined by guitarist Craig Broadbridge and bassist Nick Gregory, the band was ready to develop a distinctive brand of rock metal that “forces itself out of its comfort zone, pushes its own limits,” says Chris of the distorted guitars, loud drums and heavy bass.
Success came quickly for the band, who have already opened for Evanescence and Disturbed, played at the inaugural Metal Day Out Festival, as well as supporting Blindspott and The Bleeders.
Their video for 'Time After Time' was also nominated for best independent music video at the 2005 Juice TV Music Awards.
Their eagerly awaited self-funded Record, 'Trapped Inside', redline establishes itself as one of New Zealand’s most progressive rock metal bands.
It was produced and engineered by Paul Matthews, (Blindspott, Stylus, OpShop); mixed by Kenny MacDonald (former producer for Texas and The Proclaimers) and mastered by well known alternative Swedish producer Pelle Henricsson (Poison The Well, Refused) at Tonteknik Recordings.
Blending unique and furious riffs with expressive, melodic songwriting means a track-listing that’s aggressive, hook filled and exciting.

Record from band of brothers redefines Kiwi rock metal Posted: Sun Feb 10, 2008 2:06 pm Seven years ago Chris Yong was lead guitar for Tadpole, playing tracks from their double platinum debut album 'Buddhafinger' to large audiences across Australasia and supporting the likes of Killing Heidi, Living End, Placebo, Live Sugar Ray and Regurgitator. Blending unique and furious riffs with expressive, melodic songwriting means a track-listing that’s aggressive, hook filled and exciting. 'Trapped Inside' by Redline will be released nationwide in early 2008. Track Descriptives 'Now' This song focuses on the procrastination that seems to get the better of some people, consigning them to a life of never getting anywhere. 'Take Me In' Sometimes we only hear what we want to hear. For anyone having a hard time letting go - it is about realising that relationships don’t define who you are. 'Nothing Else' About people who aren’t true to themselves and think that trying to be someone they’re not is the road to individuality and popularity. 'Time After Time' When you get to the point when you are feeling low and burnt out, this song will help you realise there is still someone looking out for you. 'Back Again' There are addictions and demons that taunt all of us. But if we have beaten them, what makes us go back? 'One Last Time' You see the end is in sight and there is nothing you can do to stop it; so you brace yourself for the last time. Band Member Bios Chris Yong vocals, rhythm guitar Chris has fit a lot into his 30 years. He was guitarist and songwriter for legendary kiwi band Tadpole, laying down tracks for their double platinum debut album 'The Buddhafinger, touring around Australasia with the band and even performing for the troops in East Timor. Chris left the band in 2003 and formed Redline with his brother, stepping into the role of frontman. Late 2005 Chris began his presenting role at Alt TV, co-hosting the rock-metal show Rockzilla with his brother. He also co-produced and engineered 'Trapped Inside' with Paul Matthews. Richard Yong drums 27-year-old Richard has gigged with various bands including Counteract and A Kiss Before Dying. In 2001 he went travelling for two years in Europe. Craig Broadbridge lead guitar Craig met Chris Yong while working at The Rock Shop in 2003.
