Spawned in the depths of a basement lounge in Vagus Place, Royal Oak in the summer of ‘06, CapGunHero, consisting of Sam McCarthy, Jordan Arts, Jaxin Hall and Luke VanHoof, has expanded from a two man epiphany into a living, breathing, musical menace.
Sam and Jordan have been playing in bands together since they were 13, and once their previous musical project disbanded, the thought of creating something exciting and new was irrisistable. The similar and almost parallel childhoods of the two boys helped to foster a kindred focus, which was beneficial in the song-wrting process. When the two felt that they needed to expand and invest in a bottom end, it came in the form of boyish good looks and street appeal. Although Jaxin had never played a band before, his experience with touring and television and film made him an obvious candidate.
Lacking a fourth body on stage was becoming a problem for the boys so after a series of quick "Keen?"..."Keen!" decisions, Luke's guitar capabilities were employed and the funtimes were ready to roll.
With the pretentiousness aside, CapGunHero aim to produce positive, up-beat music with the intension to get people’s feet shuffling. With the temptations to stoop to ‘I love you baby’ lyrics, CapGunHero songs incorporate the use of Sam’s authentic lyricism, influenced by such folk artists as Bob Dylan and Ryan Adams. With each member of the band excelling in individual areas such as musicology and recording, graphic design, and fashion design, the CapGunHero boys feel they can bring something fresh to the Auckland music scene table.
