PIG OUT RELEASE NEW ALBUM ‘RAVE X’ ON MONDAY 22 FEBRUARY THROUGH TARDUS/UNIVERSAL

"IT’S NOT DUBSTEP. IT’S NOT JUNGLE. IT’S NOT ELECTRO. IT’S EVERYTHING, ALL AT ONCE! IT’S PIG OUT!"

In the three years since Pig Out released their acclaimed mini album ‘Club Poems’, the band have hardly stopped. A dozen tours of New Zealand; shows in New York, LA, London and Sydney; two Big Day Out sets; a European tour that included headlining the Midi festival on the French Riviera, playing a rave in a container ship in Barcelona harbor, and a four hour non-stop set in a Berlin techno club, are just some of the ways Pig Out have been keeping busy before taking time out to record their new album, ‘RAVE X’, released on Monday 22 February.

2008 saw Pig Out stripped back to its founder members Kit Lawrence and Marie Celeste and sign to Auckland label Tardus Music. The pair took a hiatus from live shows and spent 2009 recording at their base in Auckland. The result is ‘RAVE X’ - a wild mash up of genres that masterfully bridges the breakbeat and 4/4 divide and meets in the likes of recent popular alt radio singles ‘Revenge’, ‘Big Mouth’ and ‘Top Boy’. Pig Out’s development in writing and production is clear as ‘RAVE X’ moves through brooding sub bass, euphoric electro, joyful piano and several genres of breakbeat, from UK garage to jungle, dubstep to futuristic drum ‘n bass. Fans will be lucky enough to get an exclusive preview of the full 16 track album via Pig Out’s myspace page a week prior to commercial release via: www.myspace.com/pigoutfanclub

Mixed down and mastered at Auckland's Kog Studios with Chris Chetland (Baitercell & Schumacher) the album was ably assisted by Pig Out's close friend-turned-‘executive producer’ Dick 'Magik' Johnson. The title track is possibly the band's defining statement. An ecstatic ‘92 era rave riff over a massive electro beat, both throwback and future-shock. Written on the afternoon Johnson sent a batch of vintage synth stabs to the band, the cut that made the album is the very first mix sent back just a few hours later. It summarises Pig Out's approach; bold, fun, boundary pushing and infectiously danceable.

Formed in Christchurch early 2006, Pig Out were ahead of the curve in the renaissance in live dance music and quickly garnered a nationwide fan base through word of mouth, constant touring, bootleg live CD's and marathon live sets that fused acid house energy with live percussion, funk bass lines and raw rave MCing. ‘Club Poems‘ was recorded and released in 6 weeks to a glowing reception. It was awarded Real Groove Album of the Month and listed #10 in their 100 Albums of the Year (2006). The band were nominated for five b-Net awards (winning Best Electronic Track with ‘Disco Bag’) and despite not having an official overseas release Club Poems found its way onto the end of year recommended list at London's Rough Trade shops. ‘RAVE X’s progression in sound certainly sees Pig Out set to follow suit in 2010.

"Pig Out manage to get this so totally fucking bang on because they aren't pretending. Trust me I am old enough to appreciate where they are coming from - and this kicks as much serious ass as the original groundbreaking stuff." - cheeseontoast.co.nz
