Bear Cat are two good friends. Dan discovered some time ago he was in fact, half panda, half human. Deciding to write a song to his ancestors, he freestyled "Panda I Love You" to Jocee , who promptly harmonised and somehow made a throwaway of a throwaway tune into something vaguely cute.
So Bear Cat was born, but before anyone could recognise them they put on masks, and are today a mystery band that sing about the mysterious creature known only to the ancient Chinese as the Bear Cat, and only the mysterious creature known only to the ancient Chinese as the Bear Cat.
This cheap gimmick has seen them share stages with such artists as Chicago's Andrew Bird and Sufjan Stevens-labelmate Halfhanded Cloud.
While Dan has the guitar skills of a four year old coupled with a limited Johnny Cash-getting-way-too-excited set of vocal chords, he proudly claims to have completed book one of the Suzuki method violin course at around age ten, Jocee is teaching him book 1 of piano, and has recently started to cut his own hair without using a mirror. His biggest inspiration is "everything" and also celebrity crushes, bands that sing out of tune and Cyndi Lauper. The musical finesse of the group, Jocee Tuck, is an innocent young girl with a voice that makes you want to shout from a mountain. Jocee has previously studied to be a sign language interpreter and can dance like crazy to anything. Despite excellent musical training, Jocee still manages to knock over an instrument or hit the wrong button at least once a show. This drives Dan wild but he just can't stay mad at her. Awww.
