Debutantes first met in a young, hot and rich crowd of people outside Devonport's Masonic Tavern. The night was young and they had all just turned 18. Future vocalist Dan had noticed future guitarist Seans' stylish waistcoat and fine leather boots. Upon introducing himself, Dan played Sean some tracks on his diamond-encrusted iPod, and Sean was surprised and impressed when he discovered they were Dan's demos and not well-known tracks from The Rolling Stones' canon. They decided to form a band and handpicked Andy based solely on his handsome looks. They convened at a pool party hosted by future drummer Sarah at her parents' extravagant mansion, and asked her to join the band so they could practice poolside. Amongst this opulence they christened themselves Debutantes.
There are vicious rumours that this biography is fictional, and that Debutantes actually just met at their former guitarists' then-North Shore flat, bonding over At the Drive In but spectacularly and thankfully failing at any attempt to replicate said sound. They say that they weren't 18 when they formed, don't own diamond-encrusted iPods, pools and fine leather boots, and didn't go to Takapuna Grammar. This is just vicious gossip from those who are jealous of our success and long list of previous releases that got enthusiastic reviews in The Sunday Star Times and NZ Musician Magazine.
Debutantes are interested in nostalgia and posterity and have recently released a three song EP.
