The Brawling was started in 2007 by Ben Jurisich, Rob Sharp and Anthony Davies. Whilst playing for the ska band The WBC, these three decided to break away to further explore their metal roots. The result sure as hell wasn't ska!
With influences including Parkway Drive, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Mastodon to name a few, they spent many nights at the Manor working on an original repertoire with the goal of eventually recording 5 or 6 tracks for an EP.
With the help of Reuben Rowntree (Audio Program Coordinator at SAE ) they set about recording their master-piece. Regan Hughes of Second Theory fame and currently Left For Wolves, was brought in to take care of vocal duties. Once all bass parts were down, Rob left NZ to spend some time overseas and currently resides in Canada. Ben and Anthony continued with their quest and finally completed the recording approximately one year after it was started.
The result is a 6 track EP. With four of the tracks having vocals and two as instrumentals. The sound can only be described as brutally heavy but still retains a sense of groove that many bands tend to lose sight of these days.
In the last few weeks before Rob left a video was made for the track Dungeons with the help of Richard Thomas of Sunset Studios. It has since been played on C4's metal show The Steel Mill.
Despite the great distance that currently separates the band, they continue to forge ahead in any way possible.
