Some people think becoming a musician is the lazy route. They’d be wrong. Only with unconditional love for your craft and immeasurable passion and determination can one have a career in music. Grit, is the name of the musical game and this artist has it in spades. Based in Auckland, Gabrielle is a prolific songwriter, having written and performed almost 90 of her own original songs. With a need to get these songs heard by a wider audience and no way forward, Gabrielle was at an impasse. Determined to push on, busking on the streets of Auckland, Gabrielle amassed enough funds to purchase the right equipment for a home studio she now humorously calls ‘Impasse Studios’. Over the last few years Gabrielle Gilbert has been honing her skills as a live artist, playing weekly shows on Aucklands live music scene whilst quietly working away in her home studio to develop and record her own sounds. Now, after a few years of quiet and dedicated work, we see the release of the first single ‘Fire’. There is truly no mistaking the rich, dark tones of singer/songwriter/ producer Gabrielle Gilbert. The spooky hook was initially an idea for a credit song of an Indi horror movie, however, the song was largely inspired by the book Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. An inspiration that can clearly be heard in the cinematic, unpredictable and dynamic “Fire”. Exploring light and dark and how we cope with our own internal demons. ‘Fire’ is due for release July 7th.
