Atsushi and The Moisties

Bio

Atsushi started New Zealand's foremost authentic Jamaican ska band The Moisties as a solo side project in 2003, with the intention to combine the authentic Jamaican sound of the 1960s/1970s with his unique original flavour. Atsushi and The Moisties (as they are now known) debuted in 2007 at Auckland's annual SKA-B-Q.

Since then The Moisties have actively appeared in public, performing at dozens
of locations ranging from Auckland venues such as Auckland Town Hall, Kings Arms, Khuja Lounge and Leigh Sawmill Cafe, through to public libraries, pre-schools, street parties on Franklin Rd (known as the street of Christmas lights) and even a cruise ship in Whangarei... not to mention numerous house parties and private functions throughout the North Island. Performance highlights in 2010/2011 include Titirangi Festival, Music of a Thousand Lovers, and opening for DJ Mossman (Canada), Chris Murray (USA/Canada), Stranger Cole (Jamaica), and Streetlight Manifesto (USA). The Moisties regularly perform with well known Kiwi acts including The Managers, The Offbeats, Dead Fools Fiesta, and Unity Pacific.

The Moisties continue to make regular appearances on TV and radio. New Zealand's largest network, TVNZ, featured Atsushi and The Moisties in their documentary series Asia Downunder in 2010. The band have songs in regular rotation on multiple stations across New Zealand, Australia and Brazil.

Jah Tiger is an integral part of Atsushi & the Moisties stage performance. A tiger is featured in the band's logo and Moisty sports a stylish tiger costume onstage. An unusual and memorable part of the live show, Jah Tiger rocks some serious bling, and can jump around and play the guitar balancing on a bar stool!

The Moisties pride themselves on offering creative, colourful merchandise. One particular item of Moisties' merchandise has taken on a life of its own; Atsushi & The Moisties panties are a continuous hit. Their first single Kingsland the Great released as a vinyl 7" in 2010 was an instant sell out.

Future plans include a tour of Australia, and gaining a deeper musical experience through performances with more guests from overseas.

If The Moisties like you, you may get something at the shows. So keep on dancing!
