Ty has received the Best Male Artist award at the Australasian Urban Music Awards; and - along with his group Smashproof - has achieved the honour of having the longest running #1 single in the New Zealand Top 40 Chart with the socially poignant hit Brother. And, perhaps his greatest achievement, a beautiful daughter named Mila.
Now a key songwriter in no less than 5 Top 20 charting singles in New Zealand, Ty's sophomore album, Motivation captured his experience and maturity into a project that encapsulates Ty and his struggles to maintain a positive outlook on life and career.
"It's got a lot of songs that will motivate you" Ty says.
"The reason I named it Motivation is because since Now Or Never it's been so long to drop this album. There was a period in my life where I was like, F*ck this! I was willing to throw in the towel - so to speak."
Motivation has been an on-going project for Ty, and the songs on the album see the rapper push his personal boundaries with the inclusion of tracks which showcase his singing as well as his rapping.
Drawing inspiration from family, music and his environment, Ty has the ability to translate his personal ups and downs into an entertaining medium that can be interpreted by his fans through his music.
"Since Now Or Never my life consists of music, family and where I'm from." Ty explains.
"That's what I'm all about, and that's what I wanted to portray in this album. I want people to know that's what matters to me. Seeing the world has made me respect home more."
Motivation also features some of the biggest names in New Zealand music - including Che Fu, Scribe, Sid Diamond, Deach and Pieter T.
