Ceolskog is the solo project of Adam Helliwell, a singer and guitarist from Hamilton (formerly of IronStein and Z Amigos). Ceol means music in Irish Gaelic, and skog means forest in Norwegian and Swedish. The name also doubles as his hiking and nature-themed YouTube channel.
The primary genre of Ceolskog is folk metal, a cross between heavy metal and folk music (such as Celtic folk, Nordic folk, and country/western). Although Ceolskog is currently just a solo project, Adam is on the lookout for musicians keen on joining forces with him, so that it can become a proper live band.

Ceolskog Eighth Release - Leonard Cohen Tribute Posted: Sat Jun 1, 2024 6:36 pm My folk metal tribute album to Leonard Cohen is up on streaming services (only took five weeks, lol). You should be able to stream on Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music, Deezer etcetera now. Like I mentioned, because it is a covers album, I can't put it up on Bandcamp. There is a good chance this may be my last album, as I feel like I'm pretty much redundant as a bedroom musician, considering the advancement of Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning in creative fields. These days anyone can make music (or art) with AI, so I don't really see how people like me are needed anymore. It won't be far away that people can even make their own movies in a few minutes. To be honest, "Lost up a Mountain, With an Expression of Perturbed Bewilderment" from 2022 was going to be my last release, but when the tenth anniversary of Leonard Cohen's final concert (which was actually in New Zealand) was approaching last December, I thought it might be a fun idea to make a metal tribute album for him. But in the near future making music (or art) will probably take as much effort as picking one's nose, and that takes away a sense of purpose to creating music for me. So I may as well add value to society in another way. I may start a live band instead, or pursue other avenues, like gardening or farming or horticulture. Or both, who knows. I'll still keep making hiking and nature videos though. Track list: 1) Who By Fire 2) Dance Me to the End of Love 3) It's Torn 4) Hallelujah 5) Everybody Knows 6) Seemed the Better Way 7) Anthem |

Ceolskog's Third Album Posted: Sun Mar 19, 2017 10:14 pm Hello folks, my third album, "The Southern Cross and the Northern Star" is complete, and ready to download. I decided to dedicate it to the New Zealand folk musician Phil Garland, who passed a few days ago. I learned one of the songs on this album, The Dying Bushman, from his "Singing Kiwi" songbook. I am also working on a nature/outdoors-themed YouTube video for the entire album, which will be out tomorrow, and also a music video for the last song I worked on, Waltzing Matilda (the second track on the album), which probably is a couple of weeks away. By the way.... I was originally going to do two more songs....but I needed a break. https://ceolskog.bandcamp.com/album/the-southern-cross-and-the-northern-star This message was edited by adamaxe on Sun Mar 19, 2017 10:16 pm. |
