Leigh Sawmill’s web site perfectly summed up Hopetoun Brown & the genius of Finn Scholes and their summer Round the Horn tour; “Ponsonby's finest brass players row ashore in a tiny dinghy brimmed full of tubas, trombones, saxophones and a giant clarinet. Sing along as Finn fires up the Sawmill's grand piano while Tim and Nick go blue in the face blowing into their antique wind instruments!” Sound started wafting in from outside, tickling our ears - Hopetoun Brown and Finn Scholes come marching in to the Sawmill like pied pipers in the flickering firelight. What followed was an evening of dancing, singing and marvellous music in a hot humid night that made you think you might be in New Orleans. Nick Atkinson, Tim Stewart and Finn Scholes played their hearts out, leaving the audience sated and puddles of perspiration on the stage. The evening finished the same way as it started with Nick, Tim and Finn marching off stage playing – the crowd wanting to follow! Photos thanks and courtesy to Chris Zwaagdyk/Zed Pics.
