Rubi Du / Silva MC

Bio

Born and raised in Auckland City, Rubi Du (AKA Silva MC) spent her earliest years exposed to 'Sound System culture', and live bands through her parents involvement in the Rastafarian movement during the eighties.

With her sultry voice, and hard hitting raps, Rubi Du is a hard sound to forget.
Rubi Du and DJ Lock Steady have proven to be unstoppable in the underground reggae/hip-hop scene in New Zealand. Together, they have shown their ability to deliver a fresh, international approach to the mashing up of Reggae, Dancehall and Hip Hop, consistently, and consciously. All the while, staying true to Rubi’s Jamaican/Samoan roots.

The secret to their success so far is their live performance. Their ability to ’warm up the crowd’ quickly gets them gathered, and moving on the dance floor by the end of the first song. Although reggae/roots is the foundation of the duo's sound, Hip-Hop and dancehall have a huge influence, thus allowing her talents to truly shine, providing masses with the ultimate Rubi Du experience.
