Rise the Wicked (RTW) is an electrifying five-piece rock and metal band from Waikato, Aotearoa, New Zealand. Formed in 2019, they unleashed their debut album, State of Oblivion, in 2023, quickly attracting a dedicated fanbase with their high-energy guitar-driven sound, intense rhythms, and commanding vocals paired with powerful lyrics.
Guitarists Pete Hughes and Andrew Stites, both naturally gifted musicians, originally played together in the band 8 Steps to Madness, which went on hiatus when their vocalist relocated to the USA. Undeterred, they continued to jam and began crafting riffs that evolved into the songs we know today.
In 2020, Terry (Teza) joined as the lead vocalist, bringing an exceptional voice and a knack for storytelling through lyrics that resonate deeply with both fans and band members, defining the essence of RTW.
Ewan Dawson, a familiar face from the local music scene, was invited to join as the bassist. With his wealth of experience and shared musical taste, he seamlessly integrated into the band towards the end of 2020.
Completing the lineup is drummer Jonty Quinn, who discovered his first drum kit in a South African church basement. Initially playing to manage his Tourettes, drumming evolved into a lifelong passion and impressive talent. Through an introduction by Ewan, Jonty now anchors RTW with his hard-hitting rock and metal style, keeping the band locked in and driving their sound forward.
