Malachi and Joel met in the corner practice room of Paraparaumu College performing arts
centre. They both carried a passion to express themselves through blues rock. Both played various instruments to varying degrees but Malachi as the oldest member was after a drummer. Joel accommodated this request and their search for accompanying musicians with a similar vibe began.
It took two years and several musicians before they found Katie P. Katie auditioned but it felt more like a puzzle piece had been found! Katie carried her own persona, her own character, her own value.
The bass player decided to quit music all together and Joshua, Malachi's younger brother, saw his opportunity and offered to be a bass player. Joshua's mandate as the potentially youngest member of the band would be demanding. He spent the next year, proving himself. Never missing a practice, clearly showing progress from week to week. Responsive and passionate about bass playing, and rock music, Joshua earned his spot. Caravel was born.
They’ve been accused of a few moniker reflections, Led Zep, Foos, Heart. They don’t claim them but certainly pay homage to these bands and many more as their influences. Cutting their teeth at Moon1 and playing at venues up and down the Kapiti Coast, Caravel are thirsty for performance. After their first festival performance and first noise control warning, Caravel consider it their first stripes.
