Hi guys as always still an awesome band, but just wondered where has Jon Pickford gone and your other guitarist Paul gone to?

And have you added a new member to the band?

Anyway thanks for being such an awesome band better than any of the other bands that play Cock and Bull, and still fill of hotties as well!

Hey guys, I have only heard one of the songs "its alright" cause mr pickford came in with the band and they played it for us i remember absoluty loving it but the problem is I CANT FIND THE CD where can i buy it from.......... my friends and i stumbled apon esra dekan last night - playing at Rtoto's in Takapuna... no idea who the band was when we turned up - but stayed all night and are all fans now... they absolutley rocked the place.
and not bad on the eyes at all...
but i was wondering - has wesley done any acting, been in any plays per chance - just because id swear ive met him before... anyone?

We haven't gone anywhere. We are still doing plenty of gigs around the land of Auck.

For instance, you, your friends, and your family can view one of our shows at the Rose and Crown on either the 5th, 13th, or 19th of November.

Or perhaps R'Totos is more your style. We will play there on Thursday the 18th of November

Apart from that, we are still trying to get a web site (rather than a web page...) together with a whole heap of interesting stuff. I have some managed to look more Latin than honky... maybe it's the suit and the squint because of the sun.

Esra Dekan is NOT full of hotties. If you want to see beer guts, long hair and 40-something year olds prancing around then fine.

But I won't be falling into this trap of unwarranted hype and self promotion.

Although WEDNESDAY 25th at the Kings Arms will be interesting. Semi finals always are. It has to be about the music, man.

Popular Auckland band Esra Dekan are set to resume their competitve music careers at the World Battle of the Bands this Wednesday night at the Kings Arms Tavern, Newton.

Confident of bettering their efforts of 2001, when they placed third in the North Auckland regional final after only a few months of training, Esra Dekan feel that the hard work needs to be done up front with singer Jon Pickford before the classy backline of Wesley Raymond Dowdell can be allowed to show his fast hands.

"It'll be a game of 4 bands, we'd expect to see the forwards buzzing around the ball like electrons round a nucleus" says guitarist Daniel Merrill, looking forward to yet another appearance in the Esra Dekan colours.

Another pleased to get the call up was bass player Jeremy Pickford, who had problems with the bands judiciary after alleged incidents with the product "Deep Heat" and his privates. "Yes, it's true that I've had trouble focussing in the past - but that is the past. I want to see you on your baddest behaviour...". at which point the interview was interuppted as J. Pickford was called away for a dose of ritalin.

On the injury front, concerns over the fitness of Paul Normington have been allayed after he complained of cravings earlier in the week. "I just get really hungry, all the time for strange foods" said Normington, wolfing down a KFC Party Pack with a side of golden syrup and gherkins. The winger will be fed intravenously during Wednesday night's performance.

Whatever the result, talk of potential biff between bands members on stage make this match a must-see.

a review on Esra Dekan submitted by jono.

The debut release from Auckland 5 piece rockers Esra Dekan, Studio Sessions, is a hidden gem. Though not a mainstream force as yet, Esra Dekan have struck gold with this diversified 13 track album.

Their ability to move from heavy rock to tranquil bliss effectively within a song brings back memories of Smashing Pumpkins in their prime.

"Studio Sessions" starts with avengeance with two rock tracks titled "Last Chance" and "Hugo". Both tracks feature catchy intro's and compulsive drum beats. Lead singer Jon Pickford's vocal talents are clear for all to hear. "Hugo's" dark bass gives the listener a forlorn outlook.

"Start Again" heads off in a completely new direction and gets the blood pumping with with quick fire beats and riffs before the bar is raised with two beautiful ballads. "Girl next door" is full of wonderful lyrics and made all the better by amazing backing vocals. "All right" is more of a darker melody with heavy bass that gives it a dour flavour. This track stands out more than any other on the album.

From rock to unabashed beauty, "Studio Sessions" then moves a sharp right to pop rock with "Watch the Clock". This track is pop rock at it's finest combined with melodic tendencies. The chorus is the sort of thing that you would sing in the shower, and also one of those songs that gets stuck in your head.

The listener is taken on an emotional rollercoaster when listening to "As Sweet As". Succulent lyrics that tolead to a reflective mood about the one that got away.

Another sharp change of direction sees the Ben Harper like "Heal Your Mind". Relentless strumming and Harper-like riffs made this track a standout.

In the final track, "Justify", Esra Dekan have recreated the broken record effect with short, frenetic guitar punctuated by bass.

Esra Dekan are knocking at the door. It's not just the collective skill of each musician, or the vocals talents of Jon Pickford. The single thing that stands out is the backing vocals.

Even though 2004 has just begun, this is the best album I've heard this year, and will take some beating. I just hope that the radio stations will do Esra Dekan justice.

Mr Pickford..... r u SUPPOSING that all this creative language is like advanced.... i got a C for my essay, and it was blimmin hardout! use the thesaurus hardout and still got a C, but sadly only 1 guy got an A, so i dont feel depressed at least i got a C!..............this is taken out of one of my normal essays

Thanks KirtsyJ but I wouldn't really class myself in the idiot category, highly opinionated to the point of insult, but not an idiot. You're right, my band is finding it hard to crack the music industry. We're a fairly new outfit called Nebula One (www.nebulaone.com), quite far removed from Esra Dekan but pretty good for the few months we've been gigging etc.

Did I mention that the gig I saw was their 2nd ever gig?! I've been hearing nothing but good things since then...but I'm glad the sunglasses have gone (he does have nice eyes). I was an acquaintance of an old member of theirs, Daniel. He didn't seem to mind my comments either. Jeez, it seems everyone except Esra Dekan themselves can't see my comments for what they are, a misplaced whinge. My apologies to anyone that can't see through this.

I wasn't to upset about the sunnies comment. In fact, I went through a phase where the comments inspired me to wear sunglasses at every gig until one in Taupo where an opinionated young lady said for me to take them off as I had beautiful eyes...

Awesome to see your stuff on the music sites. Have already bought my copy of the CD and it is getting thrashed. LOVE all the songs on it - you guys just get better and better.
Looking forward to the gig on Friday nite as always. Sorry I missed the Empire - I hear it was another spectacular nite. Will be fantastic to hear some more of the originals - your covers are amazing but I do love your originals.
Saw the comment from that idiot Adrian0476, obviously not a musical bone in his body. It's no wonder he can't crack it in the music industry. It's nice to see a band who actually look like they are enjoying being on stage and performing.
Anyway it feels very professional to be writing to you on a website.

Esra Dekan will be celebrating the launch of their 13-track CD "Studio Sessions" with a gig at Devonport's Masonic Tavern on Friday, 13th February.

Recorded at York Street Studios, the tracks were originally intended for demo use only and were performed as one-takers in full band set-up.

Wary about calling this their first "album", the quality of sound and live energy captured encouraged the band to make "Studio Sessions" their first foray into album length CD release. The disc includes "All Right" which has had airplay on JuiceTV, RTR and C4 since it's release in November.

I saw these guys at the empire tavern recently, and that bass player dude, the one with the sunnies, well he did the best cover vesion of Hey ya that I have seen in a while. Heard good things about their 1500 people gig in the South Island. Keep up the good work boyz.

After headlining their own show at Marlborough's idyllic Furneaux Lodge for 700 people Esra Dekan have settled in for 4 shows at Auckland's Empire Tavern.

There are plans to release their 13 song album of live demos recorded at York St Studios in December, which should include 'All Right' - a regular on JuiceTV since late last year. The band are reported to be "so impressed with the sound quality" that the CD could be available for purchase at their gigs or by request on their webpage before the end of the month.

Maybe the comments of someone whose friend's band got beat? I've seen them twice - the N Shore regional final last year when I went to watch a friend's band, Ubiquitous and at the Empire when they played before Op Shop. Good songs. Of COURSE they're better than they were a year ago...

Hmmm. Esra Dekan, a band with a name that just ain't clever no matter which way you read it (for those of you who haven't clicked - read it backwards). Saw these guys at a Battle of the Bands night once and as good as they were I wasn't really left with a "give me more" feeling. Then again that was a year ago now, they may have gotten better. Nice guys except for the bass player who was the poser from hell (sunglasses at night, come on man?!).

Esra Dekan have just finished the recording of their first single, "All Right" at Parnell's York Street Studios. Engineer Clint Murphy has done an oustanding job on what was originally a purely acoustic guitar driven track and we wait with interest to see how it is received by radio and television audiences.

The corresponding video is in the post-production stage after a 2 day shoot with the Independent Film Company of NZ (IFCONZ). Director Ivan Slavov has perfectly depicted the song's honest opening phases and soaring conclusion.

The song's main hook "I've been out of sorts, but then again it's all right..." may well become a catch phrase for the masses.

Esra Dekan have booked into Auckland's York Street Studios in October to record their first single 'All Right', a track the band describe as "honest, acoustic, rhythmical and melodic". They are currently in discussion with film-makers with regards the video for this song.
