Minuit call on New Zealand To Help Out With Upcoming Music Video 'Aotearoa' Posted: Tue Aug 25, 2009 12:40 pm MINUIT CALL ON NEW ZEALAND TO HELP OUT WITH UPCOMING MUSIC VIDEO ‘AOTEAROA’ On the back of their critically acclaimed new album Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death Dot Com, Minuit are working on a new video concept for their single ‘Aotearoa’ and they need New Zealand’s help. Minuit’s track ‘Aotearoa’ contains the lyric “You and me, we are a New Zealand”. For the upcoming music video, the band are giving New Zealander’s a chance to show who they are by submitting photos which represent this idea to feature in the video. Be it a photo of them in their town, with their family or friends, on their favourite beach, showing their tattoo, or just them – whatever they think shows a bit of who they are in one shot. The video will also include film footage of events and people that have made up New Zealand. “A lot of people make this place that we live in, and we're not all the same; we have different names, different faces, different needs, different places,” says Minuit’s Paul Dodge. “But love it or hate it - this is us. And we want you to say ‘this is me!’” Photos can be emailed to [email protected]. More information regarding the project and photo requirements can be found at the following facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/minuittheband#/group.php?gid=247883380213&ref=ts. The band has limited submissions to just one photo per person, and the deadline is Friday 18 September. ‘Aotearoa’ was penned by vocalist Ruth Carr while driving around New Zealand in summer. “At first I really bucked against wanting to sing 'New Zealand' in a song,” says Ruth. “I felt like it was kind of lame, or cheesy, or embarrassing on some level, but then I thought of the hundreds of songs in the world with other countries and street names or landmarks in them, and I thought – I live here, I'm allowed to sing about it. Now, when I sing it live, I kind of enjoy the funny 'New Zealand-ish' of it; the cultural cringe of it. This is us. We are a new New Zealand if we want to be, it's our choice how we want this to go. Here is the song. It's called Aotearoa.” To hear the song ‘Aotearoa’, head to www.myspace.com/minuittheband Photos can be sent to: [email protected] before 5pm Friday 18 Sept, 2009 Dimensions: Landscape (thats wide, not tall) Size: approx. 1080 pixels wide File type: JPEG Only ONE photo per person please. By submitting a photo you give permission for it to be used in the video. www.myspace.com/minuittheband |

New album for Minuit Posted: Thu Jul 9, 2009 7:08 pm Minuit Release New Album ‘Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death dot Com’ on Monday 20 July Minuit (Min-wee), the Kiwi band with the French name, are jigglin' hips in Berlin and beyond. The group are back in the country and have finished recording their new album; ‘Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death dot com’ out on Monday 20 July through Tardus Music. \Minuit teamed up with UK producer Andy Chatterley to hone a sound for first single and album opener 'Wayho'. As much at home recording lo-fi indie or programming beats for the hip-hop elite, Chatterley also has sessions for Kanye West, and remixes for Blondie, Muse and Peter, Bjorn & John under his belt. Studded with delightful buzz and hum, ‘Wayho’ has been a #1 Alt Airplay single at radio, with second single ’25 Bucks’ hot on its heels. The rest of the album has been mixed by Ryan Beehre (AKA FunknSlocuts), and produced by Minuit. It weaves its way into the vibrant underbelly of a world you'd usually have to apply for a visa for. Fans can get a sneak peak of the full album a week prior to release by heading to Minuit’s Myspace site (www.myspace.com/minuittheband). The coy persona of Minuit’s enigmatic front woman Ruth Carr ignites and intrigues on ‘Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death dot Com’, and band mates Ryan Beehre and Paul Dodge deliver an inventive indie arsenal which never loses sight of the desire to create fantastic songs. When this trio released “The 88” in 2003 through independent label Tardus in New Zealand, no-one predicted the success of the debut, nor how warmly it would be received - until it sold gold. After this, Minuit followed up with their “Guns EP”, a limited run that sold out in the first week. In 2006 they released their second album, “The Guards Themselves”, featuring tracks 'Fuji', 'Suave as Sin', and underground club anthem 'A Room Full of Cute'. But like any live band, you need to hear it AND see it to truly get it (The Crystal Method rated Minuit's set in the Big Day Out Boiler Room as the highlight of their day). While you're more likely to have seen Minuit play a club in Berlin recently than in New Zealand (or in far flung venues in places such as St Petersburg, Czech Republic, The Crystal Method's DJ night in Los Angeles, playing the hotel where Tarantino wrote Pulp Fiction in Amsterdam, or headlining the recent Hanoi International Music Festival in Vietnam. |

Minuit News Posted: Fri Nov 30, 2007 3:28 pm minuit.co.nz is a winner! Minuit have done it again. Their brand new website has beaten out all other contenders (including The PetShop Boys!) to receive the top prize for Best Music Website at the prestigious Pixel Design Awards in the United States. Designed by RESN in Wellington (who have also done work for The Black Seeds, Phoenix Foundation, and The UpBeats) the site is in fact a 'mini-Minuit world' where you can choose one of the cute characters from The Guards Themselves album cover to show you around. Not only can you name your character, you can speak to other characters plus find out about Minuit whilst listening to a selection of bangin' Minuit tunes. The site has received technical kudos and shoutouts from hi-profile design forums including FCUKSTAR.com, with the most visits to the site in October coming from China.Minuit in Europe The band returned recently from a triumphant two month tour of Europe and the UK. With the release of several remix 12” vinyls in the UK, and the imminent release of their album there in 2008, Minuit have received big support from breakbeat pioneers Adam Freeland, FreQ Nasty, Tayo and Rennie Pilgrim who's review in iDJ magazine said: “This is exactly what our scene needs. Pure class.” Jay Cunning, KISS FMs Breakbeat show host, said: “Minuit will do what The Crystal Method and NuBreed did for their countries - put New Zealand firmly on the dance scene's map.” The Beeb While in London Minuit were asked to record a half hour live set for Annie Nightingale's show on Radio 1 - in the infamously guest-graffittied BBC Maida Vale recording studios - as well as a live set for BBC's 6 Music. The recordings will air in December. What's Czech for F*$k Yeah! Through Finland to Russia, Berlin to Barcelona, the Minuit live show rocked some serious PA systems with the bands personal highlight being 300 Czech punters turning out on a Thursday night at the Roxy in Prague to sing along to virtually the whole Minuit set. And the band may very well now have a specific vodka shot named after them in St Petersburg... Uh Oh Upon arriving in Europe the band were shocked to discover they'd taken on a stowaway! Tom Tom, the cheeky little red robot recently featured in the Minuit "Sum of Us" video, decided to pack himself away in the bands luggage and head off to see the world. Go to www.myspace.com/minuittheband and have a look in the Pics section to see Tom Tom's travel album. Last seen snuggling up to Snow White's star on the Hollywood walk of fame... |

The 88 Posted: Sun Sep 14, 2003 11:06 am We've just scored the copy of this great album that we're giving away next month, and it's a great sound. If your into trip-hop or Bjork, then this album should be on your shopping list. If your local record store has a copy, grab it while you can as it appears to have sold out in most places. The album also made it's debut appearance on the Top50 chart this week at #22. Otherwise, if you're prepared to wait a couple of weeks you could win our copy. |
