p-bass expressway tour review

Thursday 26 February
Dux de Lux

There was a nip in the air and the only thing for it was warm, feel good funk. And that’s exactly what p-bass expressway delivered.

The Garden City drifters, on the second leg of their nationwide tour, pulled off a polished and well refined set at The Dux, leaving locals and travelers alike with grins from ear to ear.

Having released their debut album Express Funk at the end of last year, p-bass have sustained momentum throughout the summer, gigging, promoting the album and jamming it out in preparation for their next release. This talented band sure knows how to warm up a room, belting out all the greatest tracks from Express Funk; from loveboat funk, to disco funk, and everyfunk in between. Fusa MC’s lifted the room’s atmosphere to boiling point, and provided the sought after vocals that compliments the energy this band exudes superfluously. Not a frown could be spotted.

The congregation of a fairly decent Thursday night crowd could not refrain from tapping their shoe and wiggling their toosh. And The Dux’s fine Ginger Tom just kept on pouring! While jack frost whipped around the ankles outside, the very much appreciated outdoor gas burners left patrons forever grateful and able to enjoy the funk kicking back al fresco style, as the dedicated ones continued to get their groove on cozied up to the next bloke inside.

Polishing off Wellington’s famous Cuba Street Carnival, after a thrash in Auckland, it’s obvious that success is imminent for p-bass expressway, who are rapidly metamorphisising funk in the new millennium.
